Why Should You Care? The Truth About The New Operation Melt

In Ask Coach Tony, you can put my Operation Melt coaching to the test by asking me questions about how to achieve your goals.

Because a question asked by one is often a question had by many, I am regularly sharing these answers via the Operation Melt blog.

Amuse-Bouche

Before we jump into today's post, I offer you this "dad joke" as a light "amuse-bouche" to entertain your mind before we get serious. Like any other amuse-bouche, you may hate it, but it is worth every penny you paid for it, right?

I just turned 18 so I bought a locket and put my own picture in it. I guess you can say I'm independent.

Why Should You Care? The Truth About The New Operation Melt

Coach Tony: A friend suggested I follow Operation Melt and read your weekly blog. I am happy for you that you were successful with your weight loss journey, but that isn’t something that I find interesting enough that I want to read about it every week. My goals aren’t related to weight loss; why should I read your blog?

I am so happy for the opportunity to answer this question today! I have been asked this question a lot lately, and I want to share how Operation Melt has evolved.

Operation Melt’s Origin Story

Nearly six years ago, I launched Operation Melt (see A New Chapter Begins). My goal was to have a platform to chronicle the ups and downs of my weight loss journey. I was on a quest to lose over a hundred pounds in under a year, I chose to do it in a unique way, and I was achieving success. Because of this, tons of people were interested in following my journey. So, I launched the blog to tell my story.

There was a second benefit to having a blog where I publicly shared my successes and failures. I am an Enneagram 3, and having lots of eyes on my progress helped me stay accountable.

In March 2018, I achieved my original goal of one hundred pounds lost (see I Did It! 100 Pounds Crushed!). By the end of 2018, I had lost over 130 pounds, completed my first half marathon (see Week 71: 325 Pounds to Half Marathon), and my weight loss journey concluded. It was time to shift my focus to living fit versus getting fit. It was time to shift my focus to other goals.

A new normal began to evolve as my focus shifted from my weight loss journey to other goals. Operation Melt began to experience a similar shift.

Today’s Operation Melt

How much last your life changed during the past five years?

Five years is a long time. It is five years since I began evolving Operation Melt into something new.

Here are just a few examples of things that have happened in my life that have influenced my Operation Melt evolution:

  • I completed my weight loss journey and became an amateur athlete.
  • I was laid off, had a four-month sabbatical and am currently in my second job since that point (one that aligns very well with me).
  • I published 3 books (see my books page).
  • I have achieved six life and health coaching certifications, including becoming a Master Life Coach this week.
  • I continued publishing a blog update every week.
  • I launched my Operation Melt Coaching business and have helped many clients.
  • I continued setting and achieving my goals while maintaining my fit lifestyle.

That’s a lot of stuff and represents a significant transformation for me … and for Operation Melt.

Today's Operation Melt isn't about weight loss but about providing readers with tools to achieve their goals and live their best lives.

Every Sunday, I publish a blog that provides tools, techniques, interviews and other resources to help readers create and achieve goals. These blog posts help readers leverage my proven, project management-based strategy for living the life of their dreams. Here is a quick reminder of those 6 easy steps:

  1. Create SMART goals
  2. Build a plan that works for you
  3. Track progress every day
  4. Expect and plan ahead for problems
  5. Don’t go it alone
  6. Enjoy the journey

Yes, these steps could help with losing weight, but they are much bigger than that.

Why Does Operation Melt Matter?

So far, I have explained how Operation Melt has changed, but I haven’t said why that matters.

Operation Melt could change your life!

America is facing a pandemic… No, not that pandemic. America is facing a pandemic of unhappiness. Before COVID, only 31% of Americans said they were “very happy” with their lives. Thanks to COVID, political strife and many other factors, that number has dropped to 14%.

86% of Americans aren’t very happy with their lives!

It doesn’t have to be this way; we can choose a different course. Yes, I said, “choose.” While we certainly experience things beyond our control, that doesn’t mean we are helpless victims. Studies have determined that 89% of the factors that comprise “happiness” are within individual control. Just knowing that happiness is within your control generally results in a 30% increase in your happiness.

Your happiness is a choice within your control.

One step you can take to improve your happiness involves goals. Researchers concluded that when people pursued goals they considered attainable, they reported higher levels of happiness. This happiness boost existed even when people didn’t actually achieve their goals. An attainable goal doesn’t have to be successful to result in a happier life.

Pursuing attainable goals directly increases happiness.

Operation Melt provides the support needed to remove the fear, uncertainty and lack of self-belief that is often cited as why 80% of people don’t set goals. My objective is to help you save that goal from dying of loneliness inside you. Breathing life into your goals and setting them up for success allows you to live the happy life you deserve.

Operation Melt gives you the tools to set and achieve your goals and the power to take control of your happiness.

I hope this answers your question about why Operation Melt should matter to you. Operation Melt provides you with the tools and support that you need to help you pursue your goals instead of letting them die of loneliness.

Let’s work together to end the epidemic of unhappiness plaguing America.
